PORTALES2025
Portales is a project about reuniting with my father after three years away from Venezuela.
One week before I returned, he had a serious car accident that changed the way we met again.
Crossing a portal means entering a new state: going back to a country where everything has changed. I have changed. My family has changed too. What once felt familiar now feels strange, different.
Through diptychs, I pair portraits of my father —sometimes alone, sometimes with me— with images of the Caribbean nature of Choroní (Aragua State, Venezuela). I try to capture that intimate connection: the scents, the colors, the vulnerability, and love as a bridge between two worlds.
Each diptych is an open portal between memory, the body, and the land.
